Everyone wants to make sure they have good dental hygiene because a good smile is one of your best advantages on a date, at a party, or at a job interview. Over one-third of all American adults mention a bright smile as one of the elements that attracts them to other people. Since everyone wants a great smile, how can you make sure that your smile is as wonderful as possible? Here are some tips to double-check your brushing technique.
Signs You May Not Be Brushing As Well As You Should
There are some indications in your mouth that you may not be brushing as well as you could be. First, take a moment and run your tongue over your teeth right after you brush them. Do all of your teeth feel smooth, or can you feel some rough patches? Those rough patches are signs that you may be missing some areas when you brush because you are leaving plaque behind. That plaque will eventually turn into tartar, which you cannot remove yourself. A dental hygienist will have to remove your tartar with dental tools. If you feel some rough patches, brush those areas again.
Also, use a mirror and get a close look at your teeth along the gumline after you brush. If you notice that your gums are swollen or bloody after you brush them, these are early signs of gum disease, which means you need to improve your brushing technique.
Are There Other Signs of Problems With My Brushing Technique?
While you are getting a good look at your teeth, check for other signs of problems with your brushing technique. Your teeth may show signs of discoloration, which could indicate a cavity. For example, gray or blue teeth may indicate a large cavity.
